The Best Vinyl Storage Ideas
If you have a vinyl business, you’re considering starting one, or if you just do a lot of crafting as a hobby, then it’s important to store your vinyl in a way that doesn’t damage it, that makes it easy to access but also so that it’s easy to see what you have too.
So in this post, I thought I would just go over a few different options that you can choose from no matter what your budget or available space is like.

For Vinyl Sheets
So if you tend to only really buy vinyl sheets because you’re just starting out, or you like to try lots of different colors and patterns, then it can be a challenge to store these so that you can see what you have available.
So to combat that, you could either use a folder like this one below that I use for my vinyl offcuts…
…or craft storage boxes like these…
They shouldn’t take up that much room so would be good if you have limited space! However, they still may not be the best for seeing what you have and what you need to top up, unless you label your boxes.
So if you want something that is a bit more accessible, then you could use shelving that is a bit more open and use shelf dividers or inserts to separate each of your colours. Or use filing trays. Or magazine files.
Look for craft room organization solutions on Pinterest for inspiration as there are so many different ways this can be done.
My Set Up
I only really purchase vinyl rolls though so this is my set up…
I started with this trolley, which fits my Cricut on the top as well and it was perfect when I was just starting out as I didn't have as much space, and it fit all of my vinyl in it, as well as my envelopes. Plus it’s on wheels so you can move it around easily, and you can pull it out when the Cricut needs room for the mat behind it.
Now I have a lot more stock so it doesn’t all fit in my trolley, but I still keep the rolls I use less often in the right hand side in the bigger drawers.
This one was from Hobbycraft in the UK, however it does only look like they do a smaller version now, so you can get various similar ones that are this size from Amazon too. Please do check the measurements and that it will definitely fit your machine however if you want to put yours on top too.
And then of course there are lots of other different versions of these too if you don’t need to put your machine on top, or want it to be a bit more open.
So as well as the trolley, I then also have a Kallax from Ikea that I keep my black, gold, white and silver rolls stood up in as they are the ones I use most often, and then my transfer tape is in one of the boxes.
Kallax units are so great for storage, as they’re a good price, they’re really easy to assemble and there are so many different ways you can use them to hold different items in. They also come in various different sizes as well so can fit in small and large spaces, and multiple colors if you have a certain scheme you want to stick to.
They have been a lifesaver for me as I need so much room for storing my packaging and different bits and pieces.

Pre-Made Racks
If you have a busy vinyl business or want to expand your current setup, then are pre-made wall racks and standing racks available to purchase from vinyl suppliers. They tend to be on the pricier side, but they will be sturdier if you tend to use larger or longer rolls and will save you so much time if you find yourself constantly moving rolls around trying to find the right one.
And there are lots of different versions to choose from. This one from MDP below is suitable for wall mounting…
Or there are a number of standing racks from walsh graphics…
And then this heavy duty one from Wensco in the US is another great example...
If you already buy from a wholesale vinyl supplier then it is worth checking with them to see if they have anything like this available for sale that would fit the vinyl rolls you buy perfectly. Even if they don’t, they may know a supplier that does!
DIY options
If you have a tighter budget however, or if you just love to DIY then there are also lots of ideas out there for that too.
If you have a maker or another machine that can cut thicker materials then you can use the cutting file from AkoAyEtsy to create your own roll holder like the below.
Or figure out how to make your own!
This is a fabulous idea from spicy pine cone using a gridwall and brackets - it was a bit on the pricier side, but still a lot cheaper than pre-made options.
Houseful of Handmade has free build plans for this DIY vinyl storage rack, which would fit soo many rolls on it. Perfect if you’re handy or know someone who is!
I also thought this was a great idea from BenjaminNelson which is actually meant as a Cameo roll holder, but if you tend to work with the same one color and it could do with its own holder then this would be perfect.
And then just have a search on pinterest for even more ideas as there are so many creative ones out there.
Budget options
Then if you are just starting out and want something super quick, but also cheap, then there are a few budget options to choose from too.
A lot of people use these plastic bag dispensers, they are super cheap and easy to get a hold of if you live locally to Ikea.
They are a genius idea, however they are only suitable if you use smaller rolls of vinyl.
You can also get hanging roll holders that aren’t too expensive, check out Amazon for lots of different options.
I haven’t used these so I don’t how much they will hold up, but if you are only starting with a selection of smaller rolls then hopefully this should work for you. Especially if you have limited space as they can be hung on a back of a door out of the way.
Then there are some other pre-made wall mounted options that are on the cheaper end like these 3D printed ones on Etsy and should be fairly simple to adhere to the wall.
These are the type of thing you can build up as your collection grows as well if you want to spread the cost.
So as you can see there are SO many ways to store vinyl. You just need to figure out how much space you have, your budget and what size rolls or sheets you are storing and hopefully that will help you narrow it down to the most suitable option.
