I tend to look at Etsy and Pinterest Predicts as well as interior, homeware and wedding trends for a lot of new trending ideas. However, if you sell decals in a specific industry you might want to focus on those as well for inspiration. You can of course apply these ideas to all sorts of products too, not just decals!

Rich & Vibrant Colours

First off, there are some very vibrant colours predicted to be huge this year. So one of the most popular predictors of colour trends, Pantone, has announced that their colour of the year is Viva Magenta. It’s a lovely deep rich red, and I think it could be used for some beautiful custom home decor decals specifically.

The closest vinyl I found was this Oracal 651 Dark Red (030)

If you were to listen to Etsy instead, however, they’re predicting that indigo and honeycomb will both be big. Again, really rich colours that could be used for a number of different decals. But according to Pinterest Predicts, searches for burnt orange wedding themes and orange wedding centrepieces have increased recently. And wedding site Hitched predicts blue hues will be huge this year. So perhaps using them within wedding designs is a good place to start!

Etsy’s colours of year

Teckwrap’s impact Blue is a fairly good match for this, or Oracal 651 Traffic Blue too. And then I thought Oracal’s Golden Yellow was very honeycomb-like. Although of course do check out other brands, and let me know if you find any closer matches!

Golden Celebrations

Another interesting trend to be aware of if you sell event decals is the rise in searches for celebrations for the older generation. Obviously, as so many of these will have been cancelled or postponed over the last couple of years, 2023 is looking like the year that people go all out.

So decals for 100th, 90th and 80th birthday parties as well as Golden and Silver anniversaries would be a great thing to sell. This could be for signs, cake toppers, scrapbooks, gift boxes, champagne flutes and so much more!

Doorway Decor

If you tend to do more home focused decals, then Pinterest is also predicting a rise in front door, front garden and hallway decorating. So this would be the perfect time to launch door and/or window decals if you don’t already sell them. Also if you sell wall decals, making smaller sets that are suitable for hallways and porches could also be a good idea.

Other sites have suggested that designer laundy and mudrooms are going to be a big focus for home decorating this year too, so if you’re selling jar or bottle labels, making sure they look high end to fit in with a designer aesthetic is probably a good way to go.

Budgeting and planning

A lot of people are going to be looking at finding new ways to budget and save this year, so decals for budget planners, DIY savings charts and challenges or money boxes could be a great idea - anything to help people keep on track, but in a stylish and creative way.

On the same sort of note, decals are obviously a great way for customers to create exactly what they want on a budget, so do be sure to remind them of that when you’re marketing your products! I like to do a range of sizes for my decals so that if people don’t want to spend too much, they can opt for the smaller option.

Post-natal gifts

Pinterest has apparently seen a big jump recently in searches for new parent gifts and items to help with the post-natal period. So if you already sell gift decals for babies or children, perhaps think about expanding into decals for new mums or dads too.

This also applies if you sell organisational items too, anything to help with that transition period would be a great idea. Obviously, bear in mind that they can’t be anything that will be too time-consuming or difficult for someone with sleep deprivation however!

Encouraging words

Etsy has also shared that a lot of customers have upped their search of motivational and inspirational items, so again, decals for planners and journals, quotes for the wall and uplifting mirror decals might be some good ideas to look into, especially at this time of the year.

Apparently, art journaling for mental health and writing therapy is becoming more popular too so be sure to keep that in mind when you’re creating your designs and adding your keywords to listings.

There are also lots more trends to look into on Pinterest which could relate to your niche, everything from mushroom decor, to paper crafts, to a rave culture comeback. Take a look at Pinterest Predicts to check it out.

And then as the year goes on, keep an eye on trends elsewhere in shops, online, on social media, and especially on Tiktok - Tiktok is becoming one of the most popular places that people go to find what they need, and to share ideas and inspiration.
